What are SCORM courses and who are they for?
SCORM courses are e-learning courses packaged to a standard that lets them communicate with any compatible LMS platform. SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) defines how the course reports each learner's progress, score and status to the platform.
At Instruccionarte we produce them in slide-based packages with reference pricing and a fixed scope. The service is designed for:
Training and HR departments that must report completion of mandatory courses.
L&D teams managing course catalogs on corporate platforms.
Universities and colleges that add interactive resources to their virtual classrooms.
Government agencies training staff across several regions to a single standard.
SCORM packages by slide count and duration
Choose your SCORM package based on how much content your topic has and how long the course should run. There are four packages, starting at S/ 1,650 including IGV (Peru's sales tax), and their prices are shown on the cards on this page.
A slide is one course screen with its narration, visual elements and, where relevant, an interaction. As a guideline, each slide equals about 40 seconds of playback.
Essential: for a single topic, such as an internal policy or a short procedure. Up to 10 slides and about 6 to 7 minutes.
Standard: the recommended option for most onboarding or compliance courses. Up to 20 slides and about 13 minutes.
Plus: for topics with several subtopics or case studies. Up to 30 slides and about 20 minutes.
Program: for a complete module with more practice and a broader assessment. Up to 45 slides and about 30 minutes.
If your program is long, it is better to split it into several short packages rather than one long course. Learners progress in stages, reports show which topic they get stuck on, and updating one piece of content does not mean redoing everything.
Each package also increases the number of interactions and final assessment questions. If your topic runs slightly over a package, you can add extra slides instead of moving up to the next one.
How to estimate how many slides you need
Count the topics in your source material and allow two or three slides per key idea, plus the introduction and closing. For example, a 25-slide presentation usually condenses into about 15 to 20 course slides. At the kickoff we review your material and confirm the right package.
What each SCORM package includes
All packages include the same complete design, production and testing process; only the length, interactions and assessment change. This is what you get with any of them:
Instructional design: an adapted ADDIE methodology, 2 to 3 learning objectives per topic and curation of the content you provide.
Narrative script and storyboard: you approve the script before production.
Visual design: a unified template with your organization's branding.
2D animation with a library of graphic assets.
AI voice-over and synchronized subtitles.
Interactions: multiple choice, drag and drop, true or false, hotspots (clickable areas of an image) and decision scenarios.
Navigation: a menu with a progress indicator and a closing screen with a summary.
Final assessment with the number of questions in your package.
SCORM 1.2 or 2004 packaging with status, score and time tracking.
Upload test on a test Moodle site with screenshot evidence.
Criteria aligned with WCAG 2.1, the international web accessibility guidelines.
Revisions: 2 rounds of changes on the script and 1 on the built course.
Support during publication in your LMS.
SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004 or xAPI: which is right for you
The right version depends on your platform and what you need to measure. Packages are delivered in SCORM 1.2 or 2004; xAPI is quoted separately. This table summarizes the practical differences:
Standard
When to use it
What it tracks
SCORM 1.2
Maximum compatibility with older and current LMSs
Status, score, time and location
SCORM 2004
When you need to separate completion from passing or sequence modules
All of the above, plus interaction detail and navigation rules
xAPI
When you want to measure learning outside the LMS, such as apps or simulators
Detailed activity statements, stored in an LRS
xAPI requires an LRS (Learning Record Store), a repository that stores learning records. For an in-depth comparison of the standards, read the guide SCORM, xAPI or IMS: which standard to choose (in Spanish).
LMS compatibility and the data it tracks
Our packages work on the platforms most widely used in Peru and Latin America: Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard, SAP SuccessFactors Learning, Cornerstone, Docebo and TalentLMS, among others. Each platform interprets the standard with small differences, so at the start we confirm your LMS's version and completion criteria.
The course sends the following data to the platform:
Status: not attempted, incomplete, completed, passed or failed.
Score: the final assessment grade.
Time: how long the learner spent in the course.
Location: the last slide viewed, so the learner can resume from there.
With this data your LMS generates reports and certificates automatically, without compiling results by hand.
Use cases
Corporate onboarding: a Standard course that is marked as passed only if the new employee passes the final assessment. It complements your virtual employee onboarding.
Product training: several Essential packages that the sales team completes in whatever order it needs.
University course: an interactive resource inside the virtual classroom that counts toward the instructor's grading.
In every case, the responsible team gets reports by person, department or location directly from the platform. If you do not have a platform yet, see our LMS implementation service.
Our 7-stage production process
Every SCORM course goes through seven stages, with your sign-off before production. That way, changes are made while they are still simple.
Intake and kickoff: we receive your source material and confirm objectives, audience, LMS and package.
Analysis and narrative script: we curate the content, define objectives and write the script with its interactions.
Client script approval: you review the script and we apply your changes.
UX/UI design and interactivity: we build the storyboard, the visual template and the navigation.
Multimedia production: 2D animation, AI voice-over and subtitles.
SCORM programming and integration: we build the interactions and assessment and configure tracking.
Quality control and final delivery: we test the upload in Moodle, you review the built course and we deliver the package with its evidence.
The final test verifies that the course marks as completed, sends the score and lets learners resume where they left off. If needed, we also validate it in SCORM Cloud, a neutral service that shows exactly what data the package sends.
What is not included and add-on services
The packages cover course production from your content; some services are outside the scope and are quoted as add-ons. They are:
Shooting new video.
Professional human voice-over instead of AI voice.
Translation into other languages.
Licensing, hosting or administration of your LMS.
Legal or regulatory review of the content, which is your organization's responsibility.
Review rounds beyond those included.
Fully custom characters or illustrations.
Advanced gamification, such as leaderboards, redeemable points or external badges.
Maintenance after delivery.
If your project needs any of these, we add it to the proposal. For experiences with simulators or games, see gamification and simulations; for video production, see our educational video services.
Timelines and payment terms
The reference timeline is 3 weeks for a batch of 3 packages, counted from complete delivery of the source material. You provide that content: a presentation, manuals or a reference video.
Payment: 50% upfront and 50% on delivery.
Partial deliveries in batches: if your program has several courses, we deliver them in groups so you can start publishing sooner.
Reference prices: they include IGV and are confirmed in the quote based on your material.
The timeline moves faster when the material arrives organized and a single person approves the script. To see all the factors that affect the budget, read how much an e-learning course costs (in Spanish).
At Instruccionarte we bring more than 8 years of e-learning services and consulting, with a team covering instructional design, pedagogy, graphic design, audiovisual production and development. Frequently asked questions
Your questions about SCORM Courses, answered
How much does a SCORM course cost?
At Instruccionarte, SCORM packages start at S/ 1,650 including IGV for a course of up to 10 slides. The Standard package, about 13 minutes long, starts at S/ 2,900. These are reference prices, confirmed in the quote based on your material.
What is a slide?
It is one course screen with its narration, visual elements and, where relevant, an interaction. Each slide runs about 40 seconds of playback on average. Packages are defined by a maximum number of slides.
Which SCORM package is right for me?
It depends on the length of the topic. Essential works for a single topic, Standard for most onboarding and compliance courses, Plus for topics with several cases, and Program for a complete module. At the kickoff we review your material and confirm it.
What if my course needs more slides?
You can add extra slides to any package at a fixed price per slide. If the overage is large, it is usually better to move up to the next package, which also includes more interactions and questions.
Can I use a human voice instead of AI?
Yes. Professional human voice-over is quoted as an add-on based on the amount of text and the number of voices. The included AI voice is clear, makes audio updates easy, and we review it to make sure technical terms are pronounced correctly.
What material do I need to provide?
Your source content: a presentation, manuals, procedures or a reference video. We curate it and turn it into a script. Legal or regulatory review of the content is your organization's responsibility.
How long does it take to produce a SCORM course?
The reference timeline is 3 weeks for a batch of 3 packages, from the time we receive the complete source material. If you have more courses, we organize partial deliveries in batches.
What are the payment terms?
You pay 50% at project start and 50% on delivery. Reference prices already include IGV.
Which version should I request: SCORM 1.2 or SCORM 2004?
If your LMS supports both and you only need completion and score, SCORM 1.2 is usually the most compatible option. SCORM 2004 is better when you want to separate completed from passed or sequence modules. We decide once we review your platform.
Do your SCORM courses work in Moodle and other LMSs?
Yes. We test every package on a test Moodle site and send you the evidence. They also work in Canvas, SAP SuccessFactors, Cornerstone, Docebo and other SCORM-compliant platforms; we confirm your platform's configuration at the start.
Why doesn't my SCORM course mark as completed?
It is usually because the package's completion criteria do not match the activity settings in the LMS. Closing the window before the course sends its data can also cause it. During publication we help you check both sides.
How many review rounds are included?
It includes 2 rounds of changes on the script and 1 on the built course. Extra rounds are quoted separately, which is why we recommend having a single person handle approvals.
